The Greater Bergen Association of Realtors® (GBR) participated in a community project with Rebuilding Together Northern New Jersey on April 27th for National Rebuilding Day. Volunteers came together to help paint and refurbish 2 locations in Bergen County, NJ. GBR Community Service & Outreach Committee Co-Chairs, Hilda Williams and Jeanine Soderlund spearheaded the two projects.

Jeanine Soderlund and GBR community service committee members, Rebuilding Together of North Jersey Board members and their family members volunteered at the Strengthen our Sisters site.  The shelter was in need of help in order for the shelter to continue to offer lodging to disabled, low income and/or abused families. The volunteers worked tirelessly all day and completed many jobs. These included painting, installing ceilings, treads on stairs and restoring the playground and garden areas. With the support of Rebuilding Together of Northern New Jersey and the kind donations, the group was able to successfully complete all the tasks and that of new plumbing fixtures and new siding and doors were completed. With this completion, the site can offer lodging to at least 4 more families in need.

Robert Wolf, house captain and Jeanine Soderlund co-chairperson of the committee and logistics coordinator on the project stated, “it was a great pleasure to be part of this worthwhile project.  To see the reaction of the staff and families warmed our hearts”.

They continued, “We are so proud to be working with this wonderful organization and the best volunteers ever! They worked their tails off to get this project completed.  We are truly grateful to all who came out on Saturday to lend their support.”

The Greater Bergen Association of REALTORS® has been a proud partner and sponsor of Rebuilding Together Bergen County. Their partnership comes from the same mindset to help families and/or other organizations that are going though hardships that are impeding them from being able to make home improvements that are necessary for their safety and well being.

In addition to the project Strengthen our Sisters, GBR had a second site at the Women's Rights Information Center. This second project was spearheaded by Co-chair Hilda Williams who was beyond grateful with the volunteers for putting in all those hours of hard work. She stated, “Many thanks to the volunteers who worked hard to brighten the Women's Rights Information Center in Englewood by painting the office and planting flowers.  This non-profit organization is much needed in the community as they assist women in transition to gain career, life and resource building skills, so we were very happy to create a more beautiful work space for them.”
