Saddle Brook, NJ – February 21, 2023- Greater Bergen REALTORS® (GBR) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee (DEI) is returning to the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Fort Lee, NJ, for their kick-off event, Annual Black History Month Celebration: History, Reflection, and Success, on Tuesday, February 28, from 6-8pm. This will be the association’s third annual Black History Month event, following last year’s successful virtual event, resuming in-person with an impressive spread of food, entertainment, and guest speakers.
GBR’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee works to increase awareness and appreciation of the multi-cultural diversity within our community as well as eliminating discriminatory practices in housing. The Black History Month Celebration will highlight the advancements that Black American homeowners and REALTORS® have made over the years through adversities within the real estate industry.
“Black history is an integral part of our shared history, and it is essential that we take the time to celebrate, learn from, and honor the many contributions and accomplishments of Black individuals throughout history,” shared DEI 2023 Chair, Dora Omana. “By coming together to recognize and acknowledge these important achievements, we can work towards a more inclusive and equitable future for all."
The event will feature speakers from the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB REALTIST), New Jersey Association of Minority Real Estate Professionals (NJAMREP) Regional Vice President, William Collins, and President, Mayarani Smith. The keynote speaker will be Vice President of NJAMREP, Queenella Gibson, in a conversation regarding democracy in housing and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear Queenella Gibson speak on empowerment in her newest book, “I am Here: Affirmations of a REALTOR” and will be able to purchase her book at the event.
Admission is $35 for GBR members, $45 for non-members.
