Saddle Brook, New Jersey – October 27, 2023 – With Leadership of the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP) North NJ in attendance, Greater Bergen REALTORS® (GBR) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) committee, in conjunction with the Global Business Council committee, co-hosted their annual Hispanic Heritage month salute, Fiesta Latina: Celebrating Homeownership in Hispanic Heritage Month on October 25th at La Havana 59 in Moonachie, New Jersey.

In extension of Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15-October 15, GBR hosted a special continuing education class on October 25th that was complimentary to over 80 members who gained three “CORE” continuing education credits toward their real estate education requirements. The bilingual, hybrid class, Helping Hispanic Immigrants with The Purchasing Process, was taught by instructor and 2023 DEI committee Chair, Dora Omana. The class provided members with insight into working with Hispanic immigrant clients throughout a real estate transaction, and highlighted the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the real estate industry.

Following the class, attendees, association members, family, and friends were invited to attend an evening of celebration and dance fittingly named “Fiesta Latina”. The exciting event consisted of authentic Cuban dishes and drinks, and a live band. Speakers from GBR’s real estate partners, the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP) North New Jersey Chapter, President, Virginia Caamano, Vice President, Eric Estevez, and Co-Education Director, Jon Ortiz, provided attendees with background information on the organization and their philanthropy, as well as provided resources including the Hispanic Wealth Project (HWP) Report and State of Hispanic Homeownership Report. Additionally, the Global Business Council provided the 2023 International Transactions in U.S. Residential Real Estate document on behalf of the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR). Sponsors of Fiesta Latina included past president of NAHREP North NJ, Maria Gesualdi, Esq., Attorney At Law., Monica Reyes of Emerald Title Group, and Carlos Capellan, of Carlos J Capellan Insurance Agency Inc

The 2023 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee motto, “the more variety, the better the society”, reflects their year-long effort to create meaningful, and inclusive events for all association members. Throughout the year, the committee has honored several impactful national months, including Black History Month, Women’s History Month, Fair Housing Month, Pride Month. The DEI Committee has been recognized by the Bergen County Executive Office and has the support of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB) North Jersey Chapter, NJAMREP.
