Saddle Brook, NJ – February 29, 2024 – Greater Bergen REALTORS® Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and the Global Business Council co-hosted the association’s 4th Annual Black History Month: Empowerment Through Heritage on February 29, 2024, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Fort Lee, NJ.
The informative event opened with a special vocal performance of “Lift Every Voice,” by Greater Bergen REALTORS® member, Mikeala Semexant. Speakers from the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB REALTIST) included President of New Jersey Association of Minority Real Estate Professionals (NJAMREP), Mayarani Smith, and Region II New York and New Jersey Vice President, William Collins. Both speakers shared their insight on the important work of NAREB in the real estate industry and its focus on democracy in housing.
The fourth annual celebration honored speaker and President of the Women’s Council of REALTORS® New Jersey, Allegra House, who was recognized for her lasting impact and precedence set in founding the association’s inaugural Black History Month in 2019.
“The Black History Month events are special and will only continue on if we are the rock, the voice, and the driving force for change in our industry and our own lives.” said Allegra House, in accepting her certificate of recognition on behalf of Greater Bergen REALTORS®.
As a special nod to tradition this year, DEI Committee Leaders, 2024 Chair Andre Porter and Vice Chair, Marian Sasson-Albornoz, as well as Global Business Council 2024 Chair, Dora Omana and Vice Chair, Lana Drizaj, invited the Center For Modern Dance Education of Hackensack, NJ for a dance and drum performance, where they first performed at the association’s inaugural event.
