Saddle Brook, NJ – February 21, 2025 - In honor of Black History Month 2025, Greater Bergen REALTORS® (GBR) Global Business Council hosted their fifth annual Black History Month event, Shaping Futures Through Real Estate and Homeownership on February 19, 2025, at GBR Headquarters in Saddle Brook, NJ.

The celebration was an opportunity for association members, family, and friends to honor the legacy of those who were changemakers throughout history, recognizing forward progress in homeownership for Black Americans, with educational real estate resources.

The Global Business Council 2025 Chair, Enkelana Drizaj and Vice Chair, Ira Goodman, welcomed guests with a special introduction of Minister of Music, Terrence Kitchings and REALTOR® choir member, Barbara Page of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church Ensemble, who performed the national anthem.

“We are so grateful for everyone who contributed to making this event a success,” said Lana Drizaj and Ira Goodman. “From our phenomenal speakers to our generous sponsors, delicious food and amazing music, it was truly a night of reflection, celebration, and unity.”

The program included a panel of select speakers: Councilwoman Denise Belcher, Deputy Mayor of Teaneck, Allegra House, State Liaison of Women’s Council of REALTORS® NJ, and New Jersey State Senator, Gordon M. Johnson, who offered their unique backgrounds and perspectives on the real estate market and housing opportunities for Black Americans.

“Black History Month is a time to reflect on the past struggles, triumphs, and ongoing challenges faced by African Americans. It’s also the perfect opportunity to unite and strategize for a brighter future together,” stated Senator Johnson. “A special thank you to Greater Bergen REALTORS® for organizing this event to honor our history and culture, while highlighting the needs of the African American community so more families can achieve the dream of homeownership.”

Allegra House, the founding member of GBR’s inaugural Black History Month Celebration, spoke about the real estate industry’s path to forward change, and cited resources: the 2024 National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Profile of Home Buyers And Sellers, and the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB) 2024 State Of Housing In Black America (SHIBA) Report in her message to all on the importance of honoring and celebrating Black History Month.

“Greater Bergen REALTORS® is proud to uplift and support all members of our communities. We understand the importance of creating generational wealth for all families of diverse backgrounds and strive to provide our members with the tools and resources they need to serve all clients.” stated GBR Chief Executive Officer, Jorge Ledesma.
