NJ REALTORS® CEO Douglas Tomson discusses emerging technology, fraud prevention, and key legislative issues affecting New Jersey real estate professionals

Saddle Brook, NJ — October 19, 2026 — On Friday, October 16, Greater Bergen REALTORS® (GBR) Broker Council and Professional Development Committees hosted NJ REALTORS® Presents: AI, Fraud and Your Rights, an exclusive educational session for broker members and the Professional Development Committee. NJ REALTORS® CEO Douglas Tomson led the informative presentation, addressing several timely issues impacting the real estate industry and sharing insights into how the State of New Jersey is navigating these
evolving challenges.

The presentation explored the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in real estate, the importance of fraud prevention, and legislative and regulatory developments that may affect brokers, agents, and consumers. Tomson emphasized the need for real estate professionals to stay informed as technology advances and laws continue to evolve, while maintaining the professional judgment and expertise that are central to serving clients effectively.

“The point of all this is AI is here. AI is not going anywhere,” Tomson explained, highlighting the importance of understanding and adapting to AI’s expanding role in the industry. He also underscored the value of REALTORS®’ local knowledge and community connections, noting, “That institutional knowledge that you all bring to the table because you're involved in your communities is what sets us apart that AI, I don't think can ever catch up on.”

Tomson also discussed a range of legislative and regulatory topics, including tenant broker fees, healthcare access for independent contractors, fire escape and ladder safety, property photo removal and privacy concerns, independent contractor status, AI-related licensing, disclosure and advertising requirements, and automated tenant screening. These discussions offered attendees a closer look at the issues being addressed at the state level and their potential implications for the real estate profession.
